Clipstick issue 1

Hello all! I just wanted to upload the latest rendition of Clipstick #1 with a mock UPC and the official Ape Logo! This cover features Janet of the bunch in a bit of peril and ties directly with the story.
How do I know?!
Pick up the book and you'll see for yourself!

Enjoy!

In general I like this cover. Nice layout and composition.
I find it a little odd however, the angle of the gun, and it bugs me everytime I look at it. I realize it is a compositional element, but even as such it seems to just take your eye off the page. The fact that the gun is rendered completely side ways while the rest of the piece is so dynamic is odd to me, as well as the hand positioning relative to the gun.
I think the newpaper clipping would read better as such if there were some kind of newsprint type grain applied to it as well as an uneven cut ecge. If it's supposed to be a photo, it should still have some grain being from, what, the 40's? Anyways, seems strange to want textures throughout the book and have not used them on the cover.

Thanks for the comments!

The gun was purposefully rendered in high contrast to lead over to the "Shocking . . . BANG!" seller pitch on the right. There are also textures on the dress and nylons, but they may not be as present as they should so the contrast may need to be hardened on those.

As for the 1940s photograph look, I agree with the film grain comment. There is a film grain being incorporated on the inside of the book, but just needs to be applied to the cover as well. The fact you saw it as a newspaper clipping at first, rather than a poster / photo , was interesting to me.

The idea is that the photos of each cover will degrade with each issue becoming more and more warn with abuse until issue 6.
(Whoa! Incoming metaphor!)
